Traction Elevators by BDFUJI

What Is a Traction Elevator?

BDFUJI traction elevators use a rope or belt system with a counterweight, making them faster and more energy-efficient than hydraulic elevators. They are ideal for mid-rise, high-rise, and even ultra-high-rise buildings.

We offer multiple traction elevator solutions, including machine-room and machine-room-less (MRL) options. With a wide range of cabin finishes, sizes, and operating features, BDFUJI lets you fully customize the look, dimensions, and performance of your elevator—helping your building achieve efficient and reliable vertical transportation.

Safe Reliable Trusted

Every BDFUJI traction elevator is built under strict European standards. Each one must meet EN81, CE, and ISO requirements before moving forward.

Only then can it enter our 160-meter test tower for a real challenge. Inside, the traction elevator’s governor is checked again and again, while safety devices are tested in different simulated situations.

Each test and every rule we follow has one goal: to make sure that when passengers step into a BDFUJI traction elevator, they can feel completely safe.

Suitable for Mid, High & Super High-Rise Buildings

BDFUJI provides traction elevators designed for mid, high, and super high-rise buildings, combining advanced traction technology with strict safety standards to deliver reliable service for all types of buildings.

Faster Smarter Installation

The control system and wiring of BDFUJI traction elevators are pre-installed in the factory, reducing on-site workload and error rates. Our installation method also allows teams to work across multiple floors at the same time, shortening the overall schedule—a major advantage for high-rise buildings.

With a smaller pit and reduced overhead space, our elevators minimize structural changes and extra excavation. Installers are supported by digital tools with clear step-by-step guidance. Together, these advantages help bring the elevator into service faster.

Supports Both Machine Room & Machine Room-Less

Machine Room

FAQ

The main difference is how they are powered. Traction elevators use ropes and a motor to move the elevator, while hydraulic elevators use fluid pressure to lift the car. Traction elevators are faster and better for tall buildings, while hydraulic elevators are typically used in low-rise buildings.

Traction elevators work by using a motor to turn a sheave (wheel) that moves steel ropes. The ropes are attached to a counterweight, which helps balance the load. As the motor turns the sheave, the ropes pull the elevator up or down, making it smooth and efficient.

The main difference is in the motor. Geared traction elevators have a motor with gears that turn the sheave, while gearless traction elevators do not have gears. Gearless traction elevators are more efficient, quieter, and require less maintenance, making them ideal for high-rise buildings.

Hydraulic elevators are usually less expensive to install, but they are less efficient and have higher operating costs over time. Traction elevators have a higher initial cost but are more energy-efficient, especially for taller buildings, leading to lower operating costs in the long run.
