In 2024, BDFUJI was invited to take part in an important development in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The client needed a trusted partner to provide heavy-duty passenger elevators for a building with great cultural and spiritual meaning. They wanted elevators that were reliable, durable, and elegant—able to handle heavy traffic while also matching the refined style of the project’s architecture.
We were honored to step in and show how our expertise could support such a project.
The Client’s Needs
From the very first meeting, the client’s expectations were clear. The elevators had to be strong and efficient, while also reflecting the character of the building itself.
Our Solution
Our design focused on combining reliability with elegance. Gold-toned cabins and carefully crafted interiors gave the elevators a sense of luxury. From the panels to the lighting, every detail was chosen to blend with the overall design of the building.
Meeting the client’s needs required more than fine finishes. To serve large passenger flows, each elevator was designed as an 8-person (630 kg) unit, with a cabin size of 1,100 mm wide × 1,400 mm deep × 2,200 mm high. This provided comfort for daily use while fitting efficiently into the available shaft space.
For drive technology, we used SICOR gearless traction machines from Italy, paired with VVVF control systems for smooth acceleration, quiet operation, and precise leveling. The rated speed of 1.6 m/s reduced waiting times while keeping rides comfortable.
The door opening was set at 800 mm clear width, using center-opening stainless steel doors for easy access and efficient flow. Inside the cabins, gold panels, LED downlights, and stainless-steel handrails created a refined atmosphere that matched the building’s details.
Shipping and Installation
Delivering and installing ten large elevators in Mecca required precise coordination. From safe cross-border transport to on-site assembly, every step was carefully managed. Our engineers supervised the process to ensure the installation was flawless. Today, all ten elevators are fully in service.
The Result
The elevators are now a central part of the building’s daily life. Their golden finishes echo the elegant interiors, while their reliable performance keeps passenger flow smooth and efficient. The client expressed full satisfaction, noting that BDFUJI once again delivered beyond expectations.
